Singer Vesta Williams was found dead in her Los Angeles hotel room Thursday evening. I was on Twitter when her name popped up in my timeline. No cause of death has been released.
Her friend Sheryl Lee Ralph Tweeted: “I am so deeply saddend at the passing of my diva friend Vesta Williams. RIP Vesta.”
Singer Shanice Wilson also Tweeted: “My friend Vesta died…I can’t believe this…RIP” she followed up with: “Everyones talking about Vesta Williams now but when she was alive people didn’t support her like this.”
Vesta sang R&B classics such as Congratulations, Sweet, Sweet Love and 4u.
She was only 53 years old. R.I.P.
Bowlegged Lou called Lee Bailey to talk about his good friend Vesta’s passing. He mentions suicide but no official confirmation has been made. He also adds that he just taped an episode of Tv One’s Unsung that will be about Vesta:
TMZ reports that several prescription bottles were found in the room with Vesta, some were empty. Sources say the death is being treated as either an accident or suicide, but not a homicide. The coroner won’t know if drugs played a part in her death until the toxicology reports are in and that could take 6 weeks.
Norwood Young tells Eurweb that he does not believe the singer committed suicide as is being speculated. He say she was in good spirits. He says she was living at the hotel where her body was found because she was in the process of moving from her apartment to a new place. He said he knew something was wrong on Sunday when she failed to return his phone call as quickly as she normally does. He says she has probably been dead since Sunday or Monday.
