David Dean Smith has been arrested for intentionally spreading HIV. He has been charged with two felony counts of  AIDS – sexual penetration with uniformed partners.  The man tells police that he was trying to infect as many people as he could and that number is in the thousands. So far police has identified two victims. One of them tells NBC Wood-TV that  Smith told her there are around 3,000 victims over the last three years and that they included men and women. She says she met him on Yahoo! Personals website.

Police are not sure why Smith turned himself in but he reportedly has a history of mental illness. He is being held on $100,000 bond.

The Kent County Health Department in Michigan has issued an alert warning people. They are also encouraging anyone who may have been infected to contact Kent County Health Department Personal Health Services Clinic at 616.632.7171. All calls and HIV testing is confidential.
