Nicki Minaj covers the August 2013 issue of Marie Claire magazine. She talks discusses her stint on American Idol, relationship status and answers questions from her fans for the article.
On what ticks her off instantly: “People who don’t own up to their mistakes. They’ll make every excuse in the book, as opposed to just saying, ‘Damn, yeah, I f*cked up.'”
On if she works out: “I don’t work out. I hate it. I don’t mean to sound super-lazy. I tried it for a time. I lost my boobs. When I feel I need to lose weight, I just change what I eat. I cut carbs and sugar. I’ll do water and protein and fruit. But I do think that you should work out. My doctor tells me that, and I get it. Do cardio, Barbz.”
On if she has a “secret boo”: I don’t have a man. And if he were a secret man, why would I reveal him?”
What are your tips for seducing your lover?: “Don’t chase any man. Put your school first. Men love independent women. You don’t have to be a bitch, but there’s nothing wrong with it at times. And: Men are kids at heart. They want to be nourished and pet like a dog.”
On what message she wants young women to take away from her music: “Don’t lose the fun side of you, the part of you that fantasized and had a great imagination, but don’t ever get complacent because there’s always someone gunning to take your spot. You’ve got to work like it’s your first day on the job every day. That’s what I do: Work hard, laugh later. I just don’t want people to think that you can get this any other way. You can’t get it with a pretty little smile. You have to put the work in, and that goes for anything you want to do.”
The issue is on newsstands July 16th.
