Stacey Dash Wants To End Black History Month And BET

Stacey Dash is speaking out about the #OscarSoWhite uproar and the calls for a boycott of the Oscar Awards as well as Jada Pinkett Smith saying she will personally boycott the awards. Stacey tells Fox And Friends, not only is the boycott ludicrous, but we need to do away with Black History Month and BET.

“I think it’s ludicrous. We have to make up our minds. Either we want to have segregation or integration. If we don’t want segregation we need to get rid of channels like BET and the BET Awards and the Image Awards where you’re only rewarded if you’re Black. If it were the other way around we would be up in arms. It’s a double standard. Just like there shouldn’t be a Black History month, because we’re Americans. Period.”

Stacey comments are ignorant and not true. She failed to acknowledge that awards and networks that cater to Blacks were created because of a lack of representation on television and award shows. She also is lying or is misinformed when she says BET awards are given to recipients for just being black. Non Blacks have been nominated and won BET Awards. Just ask the winners/nominees including: Jennifer Lopez, Justin Bieber, Robin Thicke, George Lucas, Justin Timberlake, America Ferrara, Sandra Oh, and more.

Black History Month came about because of the underwhelming attention paid to that part of our history in school curriculum and just in general. It came about when in 1926 historian Carter G. Woodson and the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History announced the second week of February to be “Negro History Week.” This week was chosen because it coincided with the birthday of Abraham Lincoln on February 12 and of Frederick Douglass on February 14, both of which dates Black communities had celebrated together since the late 19th century.

Mr. Woodson said the teaching of black history was essential to ensure the physical and intellectual survival of the race within broader society:

“If a race has no history, it has no worthwhile tradition, it becomes a negligible factor in the thought of the world, and it stands in danger of being exterminated. The American Indian left no continuous record. He did not appreciate the value of tradition; and where is he today? The Hebrew keenly appreciated the value of tradition, as is attested by the Bible itself. In spite of worldwide persecution, therefore, he is a great factor in our civilization.”

The week eventually evolved into a whole month in 1976.

Stacey also had no problem showing off her assets in Black magazine or Black movies/shows.
