Sidney Poitier turned 89 over the weekend and celebrated with friends and family. The legendary actor went to Craig’s in Los Angeles to celebrate with Denzel Washington, Lenny Kravitz, and more. He also spent the night before his birthday at his home with Denzel and Lenny sharing some laughs.
Lenny posted the picture of the three of them, saying, “#DenzelWashington and I spending the eve of #SidneyPoitier’s birthday in his home. Laughter, wisdom, Bahamian food and pure soul. He is the very foundation that made it possible for us to stand. What a blessing. Happy birthday Mr. Poitier.”
In related news, on Sunday, February 14, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) honored Sir Sidney Poitier with the Fellowship at the EE British Academy Film Awards. Awarded annually, the Fellowship is the highest accolade bestowed by BAFTA (essentially the UK version of the Academy in the USA) upon an individual in recognition of an outstanding and exceptional contribution to film, television or games.
