Chance The Rapper is giving back to his hometown in a big way. Chance announced at a press conference on Monday that he was donating $1 million to Chicago public schools. He also said that for every $100,000 raised his non-profit, Social Works, will donate $10,000 to a specific high school or elementary school in Chicago.
The announcement comes after Chance met the Illinois’ Governor Bruce Rauner to discuss the cuts to Chicago Public Schools funding. Chance said of the meeting:
“The governor gave me a lot of vague answers in our meeting and since has called me over the weekend. Our talks were unsuccessful. Gov. Rauner still won’t commit to giving Chicago kids a chance without caveats or ultimatums.”
The rapper finished his remarks with: “Governor Rauner, do your job!”
