Ashanti’s Stalker Convicted
Ashanti’s stalker, Devar Hurd, was found guilty of stalking and aggravated harassment yesterday. He sent a series of sexually graphic text messages and pictures to her and her mother over three-year period.
He testified that he felt he had to meet the singer after they made eye contact at a concert in Chicago in 2003. Somehow he got her mother’s phone number and began leaving long voice mails for both of them. He eventually started leaving sexually explicit text messages and sending photos of himself masturbating.
The self-proclaimed CEO of a record label with no distribution, obtained a number for Ashanti’s mother by hounding an unnamed hip-hop bigwig with phone calls in which he sang into his answering machine.
He faces two years in jail and will be sentenced on January 11.
