The Rundown – 11/14
Featured in The Rundown today: Lindsay Lohan, Debbie Matenopoulos, Nia Vardalos, Madonna….
Lindsay Lohan was heading into a VIP room at a Paris club late Friday night when an apparent animal lover dumped a bag of flour over her head, shouting, “Lindsay Lohan, fur hag!” as it happened. While it’s unclear whether the actress was clad in or carrying fur at the time, a rep for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals—which named Lohan to its annual Worst-Dressed List earlier this year—cited recent photos of the actress wearing the offensive material as a possible reason for the powdery provocation. “Lindsay Lohan might be able to ignore images of bloody animals skinned alive for their pelts, but we hope a dash of flour will help her rise to the occasion and forsake fur once and for all,” PETA Europe spokesman Robbie LeBlanc said.
E! television host Debbie Matenopoulos’ husband has filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences, Los Angeles court papers show. Jay Faires, a music executive, is requesting that the court not award Matenopoulos spousal support. He indicated their property rights are to be determined. The couple married in July 2003 and separated in March 2008, according to documents filed Wednesday. They have no children together.
Nia Vardalos and her husband, Ian Gomez, have adopted a child. The little girl, whose name has not been released, is the first for the couple, E! Online reports. The couple adopted the toddler, who is less that 5 years old, several months ago. “They are going public now to bring attention to National Adoption Month and the 500,000 children in foster care,” according to a statement from Vardalos’s rep. “Of these children, 129,000 are ‘legally free’ for adoption and waiting for a family.” The couple urge people interested in adoption to visit, AdoptUsKids.org
Madonna wants to follow in the footsteps of Oprah. The singer has released a video on her Web site asking fans for donations to start a girls’ school in Malawi. “There are very few girls in Africa in general who are encouraged or allowed to go to secondary school so after spending a lot of time there I realized that one of the ways I could help was to build a girls’ school,” she said. She continued: “I would really be grateful if you would get involved and help me in any way that you can with donations, spreading the word, visiting my website, reading about the progress that we’ve made so far…. I would appreciate any help you could give us.” Madonna has made regular visits to Malawi since adopting her youngest son David, 3.
