Preview: Oprah Interviews Jay-Z

Oprah and Jay-Z caused quite a stir when they visited Brooklyn, NY together as Oprah was interviewing him for O Magazine. She has posted a preview of the interview which will appear in the October issue of O on newsstands September 15th.
At 13 he was selling crack. By 30 he was a hip-hop legend—having gone, in his words, “from grams to Grammys.” Now Jay-Z charts his escape from the hard-knock life, describes the reunion that healed the wounds of his childhood—and even reveals the standing Sunday date he has with what’s her name.
Oprah: So tell me how you got into the drug dealing.
Jay-Z: It was natural.…
Oprah: Because drug dealers were your role models. There wasn’t a teacher or a lawyer or a nurse or a doctor or an accountant in the neighborhood?
Jay-Z: Well, we were living in Marcy by then, so, no. And if anyone did become something like that, they moved out. They never came back to share the wisdom of how they made it. If anyone made it, you never knew it. That’s why I’ve always said that if I became successful, I’d come back here, grab somebody, and show him how it can be done.

Whitney Houston To Do Second Episode Of Oprah

Whitney Houston taped her appearance for Oprah’s Sept. 14 episode and it was so good on that she’s taping a second episode to day, according to Showbiz411.
The second episode will air on Sept. 15. Whitney is said to have talked frankly with Oprah about her drug addiction, her life with Bobby Brown, and just about everything else people are curious about.
Her CD was released Aug. 31 and is tracking to sell a 300,000 copies which is surprising everyone, even the people at Arista Records.
Set-siders say Whitney did a “gut-wrenching performance” of the I Didn’t Know My Own Strength.
Can’t wait to see both episodes.
Mary J. Blige To Be Honored At Charity Event

Mary J. Blige will be the guest of honor at a children’s charity gala in New York. She will be recognized for charity work as the founder of the Foundation For the Advancement of Women Now (FFAWN), an organization which helps boost women’s confidence and acquire the skills needed to achieve their full potential..
She will receive the Nicholas Scoppetta Child Welfare Award at the 10th Annual New Yorkers For Children Fall Gala on Sept. 22.
Anderson Cooper will host the even that will raise money for foster children and at-risk families in New York.

Serena Williams Opens Up About Common

Serena Williams and Common have been pretty tight lipped about their relationship. Seems that has changed. Serena, who is in New York for the annual US Open tournament, tells In Touch Weekly:
“We love New York in the summer. We love to just walk around, shopping and finding new restaurants.”
Common is expected to be in the stands cheering his girlfriend of over a year. “He will be there for the Open, supporting me. He’s really supportive!” Serena added.
