President Obama spoke from the White House Press Briefing Room about Trayvon Martin and the verdict of the murder trial. People have been saying he should do something in the aftermath of the verdict. He addresses what it is like to be a Black man in America and the justice system. “You know, when Trayvon Martin was first shot, I said that this could have been my son. Another way of saying that is Trayvon Martin could have been me 35 years ago.”
The president adds he and his staff were examining policy options and questions the wisdom of laws like Stand Your Ground law. “I think it would be useful for us to examine some state and local laws to see if it — if they are designed in such a way that they may encourage the kinds of altercations and confrontations and tragedies that we saw in the Florida case, rather than defuse potential altercations.”

Time magazine has chosen President Barack Obama as 2012 Person Of The Year. This is the second time he has been given the honor, the first time being 2008. Time’s managing editor, Rick Stengel, says of the magazine’s choice of Obama:
“Obama is the first Democratic President since FDR to win more than 50% of the vote in consecutive elections and the first President since 1940 to win re-election with an unemployment rate north of 7.5%. He has stitched together a winning coalition and perhaps a governing one as well. His presidency spells the end of the Reagan realignment that had defined American politics for 30 years. We are in the midst of historic cultural and demographic changes, and Obama is both the symbol and in some ways the architect of this new America.
We are in the midst of historic cultural and demographic changes, and Obama is both the symbol and in some ways the architect of this new America…For finding and forging a new majority, for turning weakness into opportunity and for seeking, amid great adversity, to create a more perfect union, Barack Obama is Time’s 2012 Person of the Year.”
Last night Donald Trump went berserk on Twitter after President Barack Obama won the election for a second term. Donald has been a nuisance for while now, demanding to see the president’s birth certificate, passport application and his school transcripts.
Initially, he seemed to be okay with how the election was going (probably because he thought Mitt Romney would win). Early in the night Donald Tweeted : “Whoever wins today, remember that tomorrow we still have a country struggling. Our work is not done until America is strong again.”
After the election was called for President Obama, Donald flipped out and started ranting:
“We can’t let this happen. We should march on Washington and stop this travesty. Our nation is totally divided! Lets fight like hell and stop this great and disgusting injustice! The world is laughing at us. This election is a total sham and a travesty. We are not a democracy! Our country is now in serious and unprecedented trouble…like never before. Our nation is a once great nation divided! The electoral college is a disaster for a democracy. Hopefully the House of Representatives can hold our country together for four more years…stay strong and never give up! House of Representatives shouldn’t give anything to Obama unless he terminates Obamacare.”
I don’t believe the world is laughing at “us,” Donald. I think they’re laughing at just you.

President Barack Obama has been re-elected for a second term. After a hard-fought campaign the president won the election 303-206 (Florida is still outstanding as it is too close to call).
Mitt Romney initially refused to concede because he thought Ohio was too close to call. He later conceded but his supporters had to wait for him to write a speech because he had only written an acceptance speech because he was sure he was going to win.
