Regina King took home an Emmy at the 2015 Emmy awards last night. The actress, who got her start on 227, won the gold for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Limited Series/Movie for her role on American Crime. This was her first nomination.
She brought her son as her date and thanked him during her speech, saying, “My son, Ian, the fact that I get to share this night with you – the best date in the house. I love you.”

Regina King and Tracee Ellis Ross hosted BET’s 2013 Black Girls Rock over the weekend. The special was taped in New Jersey and will air on BET Sunday, November 3rd at 7p.m. The event promotes positive images of women of color and this year honors singer Patti Labelle (Living Legend Award), Queen Latifah (Rock Star Award), writer and producer Mara Brock Akil (Shot Caller Award), tennis champion Venus Williams (Star Power Award), community organizer Ameena Matthews (Community Activist Award), ground-breaking ballet dancer Misty Copeland (Young, Gifted & Black Award), and children’s rights activist Marian Wright Edelman (Social Humanitarian Award).
Patti, Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Rowland, Ledisi, Janelle Monae, and Alice Smith all took to the stage for performances. Presenters for the night included actresses Nia Long, Tatyana Ali and La La Anthony, Marsha Ambrosius, and Soledad O’Brien.
